JAMES G. ABEL, 81 LAKELAND - James G. Abel, 81, of Lakeland, passed away on September 28, 2015. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana,, to parents Colbert G. and Maxine (Jones) Abel on March 17, 1934. Jim proudly served in the US Army during both the Korean and the Vietnam Wars. He was a Purple Heart veteran and retired from service after 28 years. He was a member of the Shriners International and was a 32nd degree Mason. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons Michael and James. He is survived by his son Tom; daughters Debra Walker, her husband Glenn and Diane Abel; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held 5-7pm on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at the Lakeland Funeral Home, 2125 S. Bartow Rd. A graveside service will be the following day at 10am in the Lakeland Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital or your local hospice organization.

WILLIAM THELBERT ACUFF, 86 CHIPLEY - William Thelbert Acuff, 86 of Chipley, went home to be with the Lord on September 18, 2015, at Washington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Chipley, Florida. William was born on April 18, 1929, in Lakeland, Florida, to Phares Heber Acuff and Beulah Hand. He owned and operated Acuff Irrigation Company and served in the United States Navy. He moved to Chipley in 1971, coming from Jay, Florida, and was a member of the Church of Christ in Chipley. He was preceded in death by his parents: Phares and Beulah Acuff; sister: Barbara Hancock; daughter in law: Lydia Acuff. He is survived by his loving wife: Betty Jane Acuff of Chipley, FL; four sons: Frank Acuff and wife Taina of Chipley, FL, Phares Acuff and wife Nancy of Lakeland, FL, Larry Acuff and wife Judy of Bonifay, FL, David Acuff of Lubbock, TX; brother: Ray Acuff of Fort Meade, FL; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild. Celebration of life will be held at 1p.m. October 2, 2015, at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, with Laurence Cutts officiating. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida in charge of arrangements.
