Hays, Vera Verle Bruce Clement  
VERA VERLE BRUCE CLEMENT HAYS WINTER HAVEN - Vera Verle Bruce Clement Hays, 93, beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, slipped away peacefully from this earth on May 19, 2016. Vera was born in Dogwood, White County, Arkansas on June 30, 1922, to Laura Anna Henry Bruce and Samuel Anderson Bruce. Vera first married Robert LeRoy Clement and had one daughter, Laurel Annette Clement Hays Morgan, who survives her. Vera married Roy Edgar Hays second and they had one son, Roy Russell Hays. Their son, Roy Russell, preceded them in death in 2010. Her husband, Roy Edgar, preceded her in death in 2012. Vera is survived by one daughter, Laurel Annette Morgan and husband Neal Morgan of Florida. She is survived by four grandchildren, Michael Jay Morgan (wife, Peggy) of California; Robert Neal Morgan of California; Tracy Hays Kroll (husband, Chris) of South Carolina, and Valerie Hays of Africa Mercy Ship. Vera is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Anthony Michael Morgan (wife, Andrea) of Utah, Autumn Daniel Morgan Bell of Georgia, Destry Allan Morgan of California, Erin Morgan of Arizona, Collen Morgan of Arizona, Zachary Kroll of South Carolina, and Connor Hays Kroll of South Carolina; special nieces, nephews and her son's widow, Judy Hays. Vera will be buried beside her beloved husband, Roy at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers, contributions to honor Vera's life and her peace and comfort at end of life may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson, Auburndale, Florida 33823. Holman, Janet Sue Martin - Winter Haven  
JANET SUE MARTIN HOLMAN WINTER HAVEN - Mrs. Janet Sue Martin Holman, wife of David D. Holman, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2016, at 10:40 a.m. at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale. The daughter of George and Ottie Lee Martin, she was born October 25, 1935, in Larned, Kansas. Janet Sue has been a resident of Winter Haven, Florida, since 1969. Becoming an accomplished pianist at an early age, she was a church choir member, soloist, and church pianist for many years. A devout Christian, Janet Sue was baptized in the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Larned, and was a faithful follower of the Lord and generous friend to all. Janet was a graduate of Kansas University in 1953 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught kindergarten and first grade for over 30 years in the Kansas and Florida School Systems, ending her career at Elbert Elementary in Winter Haven, Florida. She was awarded the honor of teacher of the year in 1998, as well as many other honors. Over 40 years later, former students would still stop and ask, 'Mrs. Holman, remember me? You taught me in the first grade.' Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, David; children, Eric Holman of Inman, South Carolina, Pamela Holman Pickos of Columbia, South Carolina, and Heidi Holman Wolff of Marietta, Georgia; as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A kinder more gentle soul never existed. She was a perfect wife, mother, grandmother, and person, who set the standard for friendship to others. A visitation is scheduled for Monday, 6-8 p.m. at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Winter Haven. The funeral will be Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Ott Laughlin, with a reception to follow. The burial will be in Larned, Kansas. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Janet's life. EILEEN H. HOTALING LAKELAND - Eileen H. Hotaling, 78, formerly of Howell, New Jersey passed away on May 12, 2016. Eileen was born on February 9, 1938, in Lakewood, New Jersey. She is predeceased by her son, James Landry, Jr.; parents; and 2 brothers. She is survived by her husband, Fred and loving companion Kipper; her son, Charles and his wife Lori; her daughter, Patricia and her stepchildren, Mark and his wife Diane, Joan and her husband John, Bettyann, and Kathy. Also surviving are her brothers, Bill and his wife Carmen and Charlie and his wife Janet; her sister, Patricia, whom she was very close with; her sisters-in-law, Carolyn and Elizabeth; and 14 grandchildren. Eileen worked for the Federal Government for 25 years. During that time she also attended college at Monmouth University and became a paralegal after graduation. After retirement Eileen became an avid golfer and was a member of the ladies league at Huntington Hills. A memorial service will be held at a later date in New Jersey. Donations can be made in her honor to Lighthouse Ministries or Catholic Charities of America.

PETERSON, MERLE "PETE" - Forest Lake  
MERLE 'PETE' PETERSON LAKE WALES - Merle 'Pete' Peterson, age 84, formally of Wyoming, MN and Lake Wales, FL passed away on May 20, 2016, after a lengthy and brave battle with Parkinson's Disease. Pete proudly served 40 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a CW4. He was a loving and devoted family man with an infectious sense of humor and a notable laugh. He also enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, and tinkering. Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by son, Toby; siblings, Claire, Thelma Schmellen, Lester, Ardis Bast, Arlo, Carol Schwanz, and Lowell; son-in-law, Scott Patrick. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, David, Jolene (Mitch) Josephson, Nancy (Steve) Appenzeller, Linda (Jeff) Parker, Karen (Michael) Kenny, Joe, and Michelle Patrick; their mother, Lorene Johnson; step-daughters, Debra (Daniel) Flohr and Denise Johnson; siblings, Eleanor Lubitz, Faye Draper, and Doyle (Arlene); and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake, MN. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Mattson Funeral Home and will continue at 9:30 a.m., Thursday followed by an American Legion Ritual Ceremony at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home. ALBERT RICHARD WUELLNER, 86 LAKELAND - Albert Wuellner passed away on May 18, 2016, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, at peace, in the company of family. Born in Covington, KY in 1929, Al and his family moved to Lakeland from Cincinnati, OH in 1966. He worked as a draftsman in the phosphate industry and was a Korean War veteran. Al and his wife, Shirley, worked as foster parents for Catholic Charities for many years and cared for many babies. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert J. and Clara (Kuhlmann) Wuellner; his sisters, Ruth Majewski and Helen Wuellner; and brother, Clarence Wuellner. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Shirley Wuellner; son, Vince Wuellner (Susan); daughter, Judy Clenney (Kendall); sisters, Dorothy Wuellner and Janet Lutterbei; grandchildren, Natalie Mahiques (Courtney) and Andrew Wuellner; and twin great granddaughters, Madalynn and Savannah Mahiques. The family will receive friends at Church of the Resurrection, 3720 Old Highway 37, Lakeland, FL, prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am, Friday, May 27. Born in Winter Haven on July 18, 1934, Claude Donald was a lifelong resident of the Winter Haven area. He attended Winter Haven High School, Class of 1951, and served in the Korean Conflict with the Army of the United States. He was a member of First Methodist Church of Lake Alfred and the 912 Club. Claude Donald is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Jenkins Arbuthnot; children, Mark Arbuthnot, Teresa Arbuthnot Wilson (Sam), Timothy Arbuthnot, and Matthew Arbuthnot (Lisa); grandchildren, Amanda Arbuthnot, Jacob Wilson, Reagan Arbuthnot Lizardi (Emmanuelle), Bethany Wilson, Cecily Arbuthnot, Johnathan Wilson, and Colt Arbuthnot; and brother, Albert Allan Arbuthnot (Marie). He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude H. Arbuthnot and Mary Lanham Arbuthnot; as well as his siblings, Ruth Levan Arbuthnot, James Gilbert Arbuthnot, Earl Neil Arbuthnot, and Mary Beth Arbuthnot. There will be an open viewing on Monday, May 23, 2016, from 10am to 11am, with funeral services beginning at 11am, both at First Methodist Church of Lake Alfred, 130 S. Pennsylvania Ave, Lake Alfred, FL 33850. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
