WINTER HAVEN - Arthur Lee Burns, 88, passed away Dec. 31, 2012 at Tampa General Hospital.
A native of Indianapolis, IN, he was born July 5, 1924 to Charlie Raymond Burns and Dorotha Frances Young Burns. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1942 and from Cincinnati, OH, in 1949 with a B.S. in Architecture. He worked for the McGuire & Shook for the next 35 years. Over the course of his working life, he became registered as an architect in Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Kentucky, North Carolina, Arizona, New Mexico, and Indiana. A member of the American Institute of Architects, he held several important positions which included President of the Indianapolis Chapter, AIA, President of the Indiana Society of Architects, AIA. He spent 13 years in the National AIA Documents Committee, including a position as chairman. In 1976, he was elected to the College of Fellows of the AIA. In 1980 and each year following, he has been listed in the Who's Who in America. He is a lifetime member of Sertoma Club and active in Beymer United Methodist Church.
He is survived by wife Frances C. Burns of 24 years and daughter Melody L. Craig (John) of Indianapolis, IN; two granddaughters Michele & Jennifer and 3 great grandchildren: Alex, Bailey & Courtney.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Beymer United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lincoln Memory Gardens, Zionsville, IN.
