WINTER HAVEN - Arthur "Art" William Koch, 87, of Haines City, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 due to heart failure.
He was born April 23, 1925, in Flushing, New York, to Charles and Mary Koch. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert Koch. Art is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gloria Smith Koch; his 5 children, Glenn (Sheila) Koch, Mary (Stan) Koch Polson, Jim (Leigh Ann) Koch, William Koch, and Bob (Connie) Koch, along with 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Art served in the United States Army during World War II in the 10th Mountain Division, and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries he suffered in Italy. He met his wife, Gloria, Thanksgiving Day in 1949, in New York City, and they married in Haines City, FL, on September 14, 1952; then returned to New York City for two years before moving to Haines City permanently in 1954. He was a carpenter and a painting contractor by trade.
Art enjoyed life to the fullest with his family and friends, and always had time to sit and talk with anyone. He loved fishing and boating, and vacations with family and friends in Vero Beach and the Florida Keys. He was very patriotic and enjoyed flying the American flag outside his home every day. He was a member of New Horizon Church in Haines City, and the American Legion. He will be greatly missed by his entire family and friends, until reunified in heaven.
