Atherton Trucking

LAKELAND - Dorothy "Dot" Atherton, 80, joined the Lord in Heaven on Tuesday July 9, 2013 due to heart failure at home surrounded by her family.
Dot was born in Shabbona, Illinois on May 5, 1933 and lived in Paw Paw with her parents. She attended school in Paw Paw, Illinois and was a high school cheerleader for the Paw Paw Bulldogs.
In June 1952, she married Ralph Atherton and had three children, Karen, Roger, and Ron. Ralph and Dot owned and operated Atherton Trucking. They were one of the first husband and wife teams to be hired by Clay Hyder Truck Lines.
Dot along with Ralph were lifetime members of the Elks Lodge #1212 in Mendota, Illinois. She was a member of Paw Paw Methodist Church until moving to Florida. After moving to Florida she became a member of North Lakeland Presbyterian Church. Dot spent her life making sure that her family was happy and that every moment they spent together was memorable. She spent her free time doing artistry work that will be cherished for life by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, and her parents. Dot is survived by daughter Karen (Atherton) Moore and her husband Randy, son Roger Atherton and his wife Jolynn, and son Ron Atherton and his wife Tammy. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Dot was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be in our hearts forever.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday July 12, 2013 at North Lakeland Presbyterian Church at 3:30 pm. Interment will be located at the Military Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida at a later date where she will be laid to rest with her husband Ralph.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Good Shepherd Hospice of Auburndale or North Lakeland Presbyterian Church.
