LAKELAND - Frank Branson Rainey, 85, passed away on January 21, 2013 due to congestive
heart failure at his home in Mulberry, FL.
Frank was born July 28, 1927, in Petersburg, Illinois to Frank Branson
Rainey, Sr., and Helene Sturhahn Rainey. He was preceded in death by his
parents and sister, Mary Rainey Hobart. He is survived by his wife Janet of 56 years of marriage, children: Patricia Ann (Earle) Stramoski, Greens-boro, NC, Suzanne Lynne (John) Oro, Denver, CO., Anne Helene (Michael) Fields of Greenville, NC, and Richard Alan (Kathy) Rainey, Brandon, FL., sixteen grandchildren and
four great grandchildren.
Frank graduated from Petersburg Harris High School and entered the US Navy, serving in the Seabees at the end of WWII, receiving the WWII Victory Ribbon. He entered Bradley University studying civil engineering, and was called back to the service for the Korean Conflict, serving in the Air Force. Upon returning home he completed his studies at Bradley and graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He worked for the Illinois
Division of Highways for 2 years, then worked for 36 years for the architectural and engineering firm of Sverdrup and Parcel based in St. Louis, MO, from which he retired in 1991. Frank was a member of the American Legion Effingham, Illinois Post 120 for 66 years, Lions clubs in Tennessee and Florida, and St. Dav-id's Episcopal Church.
A celebration of life will be conducted by Father Rob Moses on Friday,
January 25, 2013, 4 P.M. at St. David's Episcopal Church, 145 E Edgewood.
Cremation was provided by Gentry-Morrison with interment at St. David's
Columbarium following the service. In lieu of flowers, Frank requested
that donations be made to St. David's Episcopal Church Building Fund. The family would like to thank Good Shepherd Hospice for their support and care for Frank and the family during his end of life care.
