AUBURNDALE - Franklin John Gurney, Sr., 87, of Beach Lake and formerly of Auburndale, FL, died of heart failure on Monday, November 18, 2013 at Ellen Memorial Heath Care Center in Honesdale.
He was preceded in death by his wife,
Dorothy I. Zug on February 18, 2009.
Born on March 27, 1926 in Shoemakersville, PA, he was the son of the
late John and Edna Dawson Gurney. Franklin served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War on the USS Doyle and USS Oriskany, and later in the US Coast Guard.
Surviving are his daughter Anita Longenecker of Beach Lake, PA; sons Franklin Gurney Jr. of Ephrata, PA, and John Gurney of Auburndale,
FL; a brother Jack Gurney; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
As per his request, cremation services are being arranged by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale. There will be no public
