LAKELAND - Mr. Garfield Givans, Jr., went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2013 while under hospice care at home due to natural causes.
Mr. Givans was born in Salway, KY on September 19, 1926 to Fannie Skeeters and Garfield Givans, Sr.
During WWII he was an Army PFC who guarded military installations and German Officer prisoners of war. Since November of 1965 he was a member of Ironworker's Local No. 397.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, all formerly of Louisville, KY and a daughter, Melody Givans, formerly of Lakeland. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Norris Givans; daughter, Luanne (Richard) Dennis; son, Gary Ray (Connie) Givans, Sr.; 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
The visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Saturday at Kathleen Baptist Church, with services to follow at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Kathleen Baptist Church Music Dept. or Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale.
