WINTER HAVEN - Mr. Gerald Ernest Baer, 91, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on November 13, 2012, from congestive heart failure.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 1 p.m. at Steele's Family Funeral Chapel, 207 Burns Lane, Winter Haven.
Gerald was born in Fairchance, Pennsylvania on February 8, 1921. He attended Georges Township schools before entering the Civilian Conservation Corp in the late 1930s. Mr. Baer enlisted in the United States Navy
on September 12, 1942 and served as an aviation machinist mate.
Gerald was married to Naomi (nee Ledden) on December 20, 1943; they were married 68 years. Mr. and Mrs. Baer moved to Polk County from Monroeville, New Jersey in 1988.
Through the years, Gerald worked as a carpenter and sub-contractor for various construction companies in southern New Jersey. Before retiring in 1985, Mr. Baer worked for a civilian contractor at the Philadelphia Navy yard and was proud to have worked on the USS Forrestal and the USS Saratoga during their Service Life Extension Programs.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Naomi; his brother, Jay W. Baer of Williamstown, New Jersey; his son and daughter-in-law, Gerald E. and Barbara Baer of West Deptford, New Jersey; his daughter, Patricia Centuolo of Winter Haven; granddaughter, Colleen Smith of Winter Haven; grandsons, Jeffrey and Timothy Baer, both of New Jersey; great grandson, Matthew Smith of Winter Haven, as well as nieces and nephews in various parts of the United States.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth, as well as two sisters and 6 brothers.
Mr. Baer will be interred at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Sewell, New Jersey, at a later date.
