HOBART "DOC" GRAYSON, 93

LAKELAND - Hobart Landis Grayson, 93, a member of the "Greatest Generation", passed away peacefully on Thursday February 14, 2013 due to heart failure following pneumonia.
Hobart was born on June 17, 1919 in Sullivan County, Indiana. He married Mary Elizabeth Morning in 1939 in Vincennes, IN. He served our nation during WWII in the Pacific Theater as a member of the US Navy and was in Tokyo Bay witnessing the Surrender in 1945. After returning home to Vincennes he served his community as a first responder with the Vincennes Fire Dept., retiring as Asst. Fire Chief after 20 years of service. He and his wife Mary moved to Lakeland in 1975 and he started a small home remodeling business and then in 1996 started another career working for Publix at Southgate, later transferring to the Harden Publix, retiring at age 89. He was a lifelong member in good standing Indiana Masonic Lodge No. 1 in Vincennes. He also belonged to the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Elizabeth and his only grandson Douglas Grayson and three brothers Tom, Walter and Harry. He is survived by his son Boyd, daughter-in-law Carol, granddaughters Amy Fuqua Gary , and Elizabeth Scammon TJ and five great grandsons, Bryan, Brad, Brent Fuqua, Corey and Dillon Scammon.
Memorial service will be at Gentry-Morrison Southside Funeral Home Monday at 5 00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation via the Internet.
