LAKELAND - Irma L. Bivens passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 7, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones, from complications of Alzheimer's.
Irma was born on November 23, 1923 in Udine, Italy. When she was an infant, her family moved to France and she lived there until her teens. She returned to Italy at the outbreak of WWII and met and married her husband, Edward Bivens, an American soldier in 1947. After moving to Lakeland in 1950, Irma worked as a hair stylist at Lakeland Regional Medical Hospital and several local nursing homes for many years. After retirement, she worked as a real estate agent for several years.
Mrs. Bivens was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lakeland. She loved music, dancing and spending time with her family. Irma never met a stranger and was always the life of the party. Most of all, she was a wonderful and adoring mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward C. Bivens. She is survived by her daughter Saralyn (Ken) Smith of Lakeland and her two granddaughters, Erin (Ross) Berling and Regan Smith.
A private memorial service was held in celebration of her life. Donations can be made in her honor to Irma's favorite charity,
