LAKELAND - Mr. James F. Durbin, 79, died of a stroke Sunday, May 19, 2013.
He was born in Omaha, NE on July 2, 1933. He moved to Lakeland in 1965 and was employed by Wellman Lord for 23 years and Jacobs Engineering group for 8 years before retiring in 1997. He was a graduate of University of Nebraska-Omaha, a member of the American Association of Cost Engineers, and an Associate member of the Florida Engineering Society. He served in the US Navy Air as a combat Aircrewman during the Korean War. He was inducted into the Enlisted Combat Aircrew Roll of Honor at Patriots Point, Charleston Harbor, SC. One of his main interests was aviation and he was a licensed pilot. He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Durbin; son, David Durbin of Simpsonville, SC; daughters, Catherine Anderson of Orange Park, FL, Lorraine Spruce of Lakeland, FL; brother, Dr. Leo Durbin of Port St. Lucie, FL; and three grandchildren, Andrew, Abbey and Sarah.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday, 11:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Charities or the . Arrangements by Gentry Morrison Funeral Homes, Southside Chapel.
