LAKELAND - John Paul Jones, 48, of Lakeland, Fl, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014 from heart failure.
He was born on March 16, 1965 at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. John grew up in Lakeland and graduated from Lakeland High School in 1983. After high school he attended ITT Tech and graduated as an Electronics Technician. In 1987 John joined the United States Navy
. He was stationed primarily at Cecil Field in Jacksonville, FL. John was attached to the USS Roosevelt and served during Operation Desert Storm. In October 2007 he retired from the Navy after proudly serving his country for 20 years. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for a while with NCR. John recently moved from Jacksonville back to his hometown of Lakeland.
John was preceded in death by his father John C. "Jack" Jones and his mother Nancy Lou Carpenter Cape. He is survived by his wife, Shannon Ruth Jones; son, John Michael and daughter, Jennifer Michelle Lee, both of Jacksonville; grandsons, Gavyn Anthony and Craven Michael; brother, Timothy James Jones (Angie) of North Carolina; nephew, Hunter James Jones, actively serving his country in the U.S. Army; stepmother, Elizabeth "Betsy" Jones of Interlachen; stepfather, Jerry Cape of Bradenton; uncle, Jeffry D. Jones (Liz) of Ohio; stepdaughter, Hailey Autumn Robert of Keystone Heights; step granddaughter, Natalie Rose Strickland; mother-in- law, Ruth Neal of Keystone Heights.
A visitation will be held on Friday (today), Feb. 7, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home at Serenity Gardens. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, Feb. 8th at 1 PM in the funeral home chapel.
