TAVERNIER, FL - Mr. Kenneth Brooks Cone, age 73, of Tavernier, FL, died August 17, 2012 surrounded by his family. Ken was a fighter, overcoming many health obstacles over the years, but ultimately lost a courageous battle with cancer.
Ken was born Feb. 12, 1939 in Lakeland, FL. He attended Florida State University on a football scholarship, and graduated with a B.S. in Math. Ken then attended flight school and served in the United States Air Force. He later was a pilot for Pan Am. Ken then served in the Puerto Rico National Guard, and later served in the Air Force Reserves for the remainder of his military career at Homestead Air Force Base. He briefly worked for the FAA, and was a pilot for Arrow Air.
Ken was a fishing enthusiast. Every day, you could find him at Robbie's Marina's fishing docks waiting to see the day's catch, usually with a camera in hand. Ken was a wealth of knowledge when it came to boats, planes, fishing, and cars. He also had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved telling stories and jokes.
Ken is survived by his sons Brian Cone (Denise) and Eric Cone (Wendy), four grandchildren, and his sister Joan Hauersberger. He is predeceased by parents Mary Lee and Joseph Cone, sister Margaret Budlong, and brother Joseph Cone.
