VALRICO - Marian Frances Picht Grimes, 90, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, at her daughter's home in Valrico, FL.
Born Jan. 2, 1924, in Ames, Iowa, to Jess and Bessie Picht, she is preceded in death by her husband, Keith Craig Grimes. She is survived by her children: Craig (Nita) Grimes and Kevin (Becky) Grimes and Colleen (Wayne) Anderson, 4 grandchildren and 8 great children.
Marian grew up in Lake City, Iowa, graduating from high school and teaching country school prior to moving to Washington DC, where she worked for the Navy Dept. She returned to Iowa to attend the University of Iowa and married Keith on Aug. 4, 1948, who died Feb. 18, 1960, after heart surgery at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. She lived in Winter Haven the remainder of her life where she taught kindergarten at Snively Elementary after having graduated from Florida Southern in 1973 and the University of South Florida in 1975 with a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. She retired from teaching in 1987 and attended Covenant Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Known as 'Granny' to her loving family, she spent her retirement years traveling the world.
The family plans a private service and requests Memorial donations may be made to Lifepath Hospice in Sun City Center, FL.
