AUBURNDALE - Martin Ray Moore, age 94, died on June 19, 2014, in Auburndale, FL.
Born in Humphreys County, TN, he graduated from Murray State College in 1943 with a B.S. in Agriculture and was called to active duty in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Lieutenant (jg) and captain of a P.T. boat in the South Pacific. He married the late Mary Jane (Corbin) Moore in 1944. In 1952 the family moved to Fort Myers, FL where they lived for 18 years and then to Winter Haven, FL., where they lived for 35 years. In 2003 he moved to Auburndale, FL. He worked for the Florida Department of Agriculture, loved sailing, hiking in the NC mountains, playing bridge, and making people laugh (or groan).
He is survived by his brother Carl Moore, partner Caroline Hyde, son Ray Corbin Moore, daughters Marianna Moore Adams and Becky Moore Nichols, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous friends.
A memorial service will be held October 17, 11:30 am, at the National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL. Memorial donations can be made to Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, FL.
