LAKELAND - Merrillee Kelly Fisher, age 70, died Wednesday, December 5, 2012, of respiratory failure.
Merrillee was born September 16, 1942, in Kingston, New York to Rita and Robert Kelly. After attending schools in Kingston, she married George Fisher, of Rosendale, New York. In 1974, the couple moved to Florida, where they soon founded and expanded an insurance business in Winter Haven, Bartow and Lakeland.
Merrillee had a multifaceted career, working as a beautician, waitress, and ultimately, as agent/owner of Victory Insurance Company in Winter Haven. A talented and clever crafts-person, she enjoyed working in varied art media, loved reading and studying, and in 2009, published her spiritual memoir, Prove Me.
Merrillee was devoted to her church, Ignited, where she has been an Elder, a member of the prayer team, and an intercessor. She greatly enjoyed conducting services, leading prayer meetings, and participating in mission work, most recently to Peru and Nicaragua. Her deep religious faith was at the heart of her life.
Merrillee is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, George Fisher; her sister, Nolleen Kelly, of Lakeland; a brother, Robert Kelly (Laurie) and nephew Nathan, of Saugerties, New York; beloved aunt and uncle, Madeline and Harold Sheeley, of Shokan, New York; several cousins; and many friends.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012, at Gentry Morrison Funeral Home, 5245 U.S. Highway 98 North, Lakeland, at 10 AM followed by burial at Serenity Gardens Cemetery. A viewing will be held the previous evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
