LAKELAND - Norma Jean Mueller, known to her friends and loved ones as Jean, died at the age of 82 of heart problems at Good Shepherd Hospice in Lakeland, Florida on Monday, February 18, 2013.
Born July 14, 1930, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, to a school teacher father who encouraged education, she was awarded a 4 year scholarship to Ohio State University
. She majored in education and social studies. There she met her beloved husband Frank. They were married at the end of their junior year. After graduation their first son Kirk was born. After 2 years in the Air Force a second son Chris was born and Jean & Frank returned to Hialeah, Florida. Two more sons, Brad and Scott were born. Frank opened Mueller's Animal Hospital in 1956 and Jean became the hospital manager. She continued as manager when they added a 200 acre cattle ranch in Arcadia, FL.
Jean spent 8 years as a Cub Scout den mother and went on to teach crafts to the Dade County Scout leadership. She sang in the church choir and was a dedicated volunteer in many organizations.
After retiring, Jean and her husband enjoyed their summer home in North Carolina and their bay side home on Pine island, FL. The best of both worlds.
Jean cared for her beloved husband for 5 years after cancer struck and strokes occurred. They moved to the Florida Presbyterian Homes, in Lakeland, FL, in April of 2003 where tragedy struck within two months. Both Jean's husband and their son Chris died.
Jean still smiled and was an active volunteer at the Home's. She always considered her family her biggest accomplishment.
Jean is survived by three children and four grandchildren.
Plans for a memorial service are yet to be completed.
