CHARLES "DICK" LANGFORD, 69
BARTOW - Richard Charles "Dick" Langford, 69, of Bartow went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 16, 2014 due to heart failure. He was hunting with friends and enjoying life.
Dick was born and raised in Bartow, FL. He attended Emory University and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Student Government, and a member of the swim team. He received his law degree from the University of Florida
and went on to practice in Bartow and St. Petersburg. He was also active in the citrus industry for many years. He was passionate about giving back to the community and was active in various organizations in Polk, Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Hickson Langford and Katherine Swearingen Langford. He is survived by his two children: Leslie Elizabeth Langford of Tampa and John Joseph "Jay" Langford of Tampa, his daughter-in-law, Susan Madden Langford and his grandchildren, Madden Joseph Langford and Barrett Hickson Langford. Dick is also survived by his sister Mary L. Swaine (Michael) of Sebring and their children and John S. Langford (Mary Kay) of Lakeland and their children and his two buddies, Labrador Retrievers, Choc and Elam.
Dick enjoyed the outdoors and spending time training his dogs. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren and laughing with his family and best friends. He was an active member of Hyde Park United Methodist Church of Tampa.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Hal Flowers, Jim Ferman, and Dick's close friends for their graciousness and attentiveness to Dick and his family.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 5pm - 8pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, 650 E. Main Street, Bartow, FL 33830. There will be a Memorial Service on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 10am at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W. Platt Street, Tampa, FL 33606.
