Church Leader

AUBURNDALE - Richard I. Gregory, 77, went home to be with his Savior after over 50 years of service as a pastor, teacher and church leader. He suffered from pulmonary fibrosis and related complications.
He was born in Honesdale, PA on September 24, 1935 to Richard P. and Eleanor Gregory. He married Carol Schafer in 1956. He was graduated from Honesdale High School, Shelton College with a BA in Philosophy, Faith Seminary with a Master of Divinity and Bob Jones University with a Doctor of Divinity. He was ordained to the Ministry by the Tabernacle Bible Church, Honesdale, PA in November 1957. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Winter Haven, FL.
As a teenager he began preaching at the Conklin Hill Chapel in Damascus, PA. During his college and seminary days he was pastor of Byrum Bay Chapel, Hopatcong, NJ and Pennridge Community Church, Perkasie, PA. In 1964, he became pastor at Braintrim Baptist Church, Laceyville, PA and served there until he received a call to pastor Limerick Chapel, Limerick, PA in 1970. He served there until 1987 when he was elected Executive Director of IFCA International, Grandville, MI, a fellowship of independent churches. Dr. Gregory served this fellowship until his retirement to the Hamptons in Auburndale, FL in 2000.
During his retirement he continued to serve as Minister at Large and Editor of Voice Magazine for IFCA International. He also served several churches as Interim Pastor, most recently Tabernacle Bible Church, Honesdale, PA until November of 2011.
Over the years he was privileged to minister in 48 States, 25 Countries, 22 Colleges and 8 Seminaries. He also traveled 14 times to the countries of the former Soviet Union. He served as Secretary of the Board of Slavic Gospel Association, President of the Board of Biblical Ministries Worldwide, Advisory Board of Clearwater Christian College and Board member of Biblical Seminary and Bible Club Movement. He served as president of the Eastern and Florida Regionals of IFCA International and several terms on its International Board of Directors.
He recently completed writing a book called Ministry Matters: Shepherding and Finishing Well. He also co-authored a book on Christian relationships with his son, entitled On the Level. Known for his rich baritone voice he recorded a CD called Great is Thy Faithfulness. He is survived by his wife, Carol Schafer Gregory; a son, Dr. Richard W. Gregory, (Patricia), Fair Oaks, CA; three daughters, Debra Love, (Stephen), Wilmington, NC, Jan Kimbro, (Rev. Reginald), Clemmons, NC, Cynthia Bullock, (Timothy), Greenville, SC; 5 grandsons: James, Trevor, Richard, William and Andrew; 10 granddaughters: Courtney, Jessica, Lauren, Keri, Abbi, Suzanna, Josalyn, Erin, Kayla and Lindsay; and 9 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Doris Quick. He is survived by two sisters: Joyce Brown and Joanne Gardner; five brothers: Dale, Fred, Michael, David and Todd.
Friends may visit on Friday, July 26, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church, 2140 Crystal Beach Rd, Winter Haven, Florida 33880. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 PM.
There will also be a Memorial Service held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 7:00 PM in the Tabernacle Bible Church, 455 Grove Street, Honesdale, Pennsylvania 18431.
Friends may visit on Monday, July 29, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Tabernacle Bible Church, Honesdale.
Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale, PA.
