RUPERT L. CARLTON, Jr., 88 Ft. Meade High School FORT MEADE - Rupert L Carlton, Jr., age 88, of Fort Meade, FL, died Sunday, January 7, 2007, at Bartow Regional Medical of complications due to a fall. Mr. Carlton was born December 11, 1918 in Wauchula, FL. He graduated from Florida Southern College and did postgraduate work at FSU. Mr. Carlton served his country in WWII for 5 years. He is an Army veteran. He was the Band Director at Fort Meade High School from 1950 to 1979. He also taught music at the middle school from 1975 to 1979. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Meade and the former choir director. He was a charter member and past President of the Ft. Meade Rotary Club, now known as the Ft. Meade Civic Club which he still attended on a regular basis. Mr. Carlton was the recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Award. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mickey Carlton of Fort Meade; 2 Sister-n-laws-Mary Carlton of Winter Park and Alice Carlton of Lakeland; 4 nephews. Arrangements are being handled by McLean Funeral Home, 306 East Broadway, Fort Meade. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 6 to 8 pm on 1/9/2007 at McLean Funeral Home. The Service will be at The First United Methodist Church Wednesday at 11:00 am on 1/10/2007. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Meade.
