Thurman Burnett

Thurman Burnett Lakeland - Thurman Burnett, 86, died of heart failure on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Decedent's Residence. He was born in Madison, FL, he moved from Tallahassee to Lakeland 4 years ago. Mr. Burnett was the Deputy Secretary of Unemployment Benefits for the State of Florida for 45 years. Mr. Burnett was a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Air Force for 25 years. He was shot down in WWII and was a POW for 2 years, he is a proud recipient of the Purple Heart medal. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Arlene Powell Burnett. He is survived by daughter, Beverly & Robert Bryant of Dade City, FL; son, John T. & Mary Burnett of Hertford, N.C.; 2 sisters, Hazel Myrtice Brannen of Lake Hamilton, FL, Eutha Belle Starkey of Dundee, FL; 2 brothers, Lloyd Calvin "LC" Burnett of Sandy, Utah, Herman Lester Burnett of Haines City, FL; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by McLean Funeral Home, 306 East Broadway, Fort Meade, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday, November 26, 2006. Funeral service will be at McLean Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Monday, November 27, 2006, Dr. W.G. Hollyfield officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Meade.
