LAKELAND - Walter Robert Sangster, 79, passed away January 28, 2014 from heart failure.
W.R. was born in Lakeland on Nov. 18, 1934 to the late David and Nola (Lampp) Sangster. In 1984, he retired from the U.S. Air Force, concluding his service with the 400th MMS (PACAF), at Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan. During his career, he served his country proudly in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, specializing in munitions and explosives. He returned to Lakeland to be near family, old friends, and to enjoy fishing Saddle Creek. He was best known for his ability to fix anything.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rebecca Sangster and Dora Hall.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Helen Sangster; daughters, Nola (Jose G.) Quintanilla, Kathy A. Sangster and Mary Ann Stone; sons, Stephen (Vicky) Bridges and Robert Bridges; his grandchildren, Jose Jr., Cole and Meilani Quintanilla; Ryan and Ryel Stone; Kristen Delaney; Charity Davis, Robert Bridges, Jr. and Logan Bridges. W.R. also leaves behind one dear sister, Oralene (Bert) Barlow; and 6 great grandchildren.
Interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the , Florida Gulf Coast Chapter.
