Carl Hjort Obituary

CARL EDWARD
HJORT, Sr., 84

LAKELAND - Carl Edward Hjort, Sr., age 84, died August 3, 2010 of heart failure at Hope Hospice in Sebring.
Carl attended the University of Florida and was a proud Gator. Carl served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Princeton and the USS Augusta. While in the Navy he was able to pursue his love of Boxing.
Carl's careers spanned many occupations. The one he was most proud of was Studebaker Southern, where he helped build dormitories for the students at Warner Southern College (now University). He had a pilot's license for many years, and his love for airplanes took him to the Islands where he helped salvage aircraft. He also was a foreman at Piper Aircraft. Carl worked in the new home industry for Sun State Homes and Highland Homes. Carl never retired as he always had some major project going, including building a gyrocoptor in his garage. The gentlemen he built it for took it to Osh Kosh, Wisconsin and won several awards.
Carl is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Eugene P. Hjort and his sister Marlene Bailey. Carl is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda, Lakeland, Fl., sons, Carl, Jr. (Terryann), Winter Haven, Stephen, Lakeland; and daughters Susan Weedon (Jim) Ohio, and Bonnie Williams, (Harold) Mt. Olive, NC. He was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hope Hospice.
A celebration of Carl's life will be held Friday August 6, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Southside Assembly of God.
Condolences may be sent to the family @

Dear Grandpa,
I love you with all of my heart. I am so thankful that you are with the lord now and not in anymore pain and suffering. I'm sorry I couldnt be there but I just want you to know that I love you with all of my heart. Someday we will be together again. I am very happy you got to meet your great grandson in June. He sure loves you and I love you too.
