BARTOW - Mr. Charles E. Colter, 87, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2008 from respiratory failure.
He was born July 7, 1921 in Wauchula, FL. Mr. Coulter was a lifelong resident of Polk county and a graduate of Lakeland High School. He earned a degree in Chemistry from the University of Florida where he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He was a chemist within the citrus and phosphate industry. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bartow and served on the church council, a Board Member of the First Methodist School and a Sunday School teacher. Mr. Coulter was a WWII veteran serving in the Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theatre, flying numerous missions over "The Hump" in the Burma-Chinese Theatre.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mary Simons Coulter. He is survived by one daughter, Sue Jean & her husband David Jones of Plant City, FL; one granddaughter, Christen Jones of Plant City, FL and one grandson, Matthew Jones of Plant City, FL.
Arrangements are being handled by Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, 650 East Main Street, Bartow, FL. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 6, 2008 from 10 to 11 a.m. The service will follow at 11 a.m. at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home. Interment will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, FL. I will so miss Charles. He always sat at the end of church pew from my husband and me. He was such a sweet person and I loved talking with him on Sunday morning.
