ALBRITTON, 79

LAKE WALES - After battling colon/liver cancer for two years, Barbara Stanland Albritton passed away peacefully on May 28th at her home and surrounded by her family.
She was born on August 23, 1929, to Lloyd and Eva Mae Stanland in Waverly, Florida. She graduated from Lake Wales High School in 1947 and attended Stetson University in 1947 and 1948. She married George Edwin Albritton on December 28, 1959 (59 years). She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales being a member of Salt Shaker's Bible Class; member of Women of Church serving as Secretary for three years; volunteer for the MOPS program working with two-year-olds; and was a member of the Bell Choir for several years. Her hobby was tennis, having played on the Lake Wales Country Club team for many years. She retired from active tennis at age 74. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi (a social sorority) for over fifty years and was serving her third term as President when she had to retire after being diagnosed with cancer. She enjoyed attending the annual Air Force reunions over the past several years where she met many of her husband's friends who served with him during his military years. She treasured all the friends she met during her church years, reunions, tennis years, neighbors, sorority who remained faithful in remembering her during her battle with cancer.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, George Edwin Albritton of Lake Wales, Florida, daughter Julie A. Dale (Richard) of Ocoee, Florida; son Dr. Robert E. Albritton (Rebecca) of Vienna, Virginia. Grandchildren Kelly Hill (Shawn) of Winter Garden, Florida, James Dale of Orlando, Florida, Neil A. Albritton of Jupiter, Florida, Anne Albritton of Vienna, Virginia; and one great-grandson Parker Hill of Winter Garden, Florida. Two sisters: June Howard (Ray), Mary Grissom (Doug) and two sisters-in-law Mollie Cooper and Kathryn Stanland.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Wales. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery. Donations may be made to Lake Wales Care Center and to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund for new building. Condolences may be sent to the family at
