THOMAS, 82

WINTER HAVEN - Doris Thomas, 82, died peacefully on March 9, 2010 in Winter Haven Hospital from a stroke.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Glenn Thomas; her son L. G. Thomas, Ill of Atlanta; her daughter and son-in-law Mimi and Harvey Blonder and granddaughter Brittany Blonder of Annapolis; her daughter Sandra of Key West; her sister and brother-in-law Gerry and Earl Ference of Gainesville; and her sister-in-law Gwen Puryear of Groveland.
Doris was born in Groveland, FL., where her father, Elma Puryear was mayor for 25 years. She graduated from Groveland High School in 1945, received an Associate's Degree from Virginia Intermont College, and a Bachelor's Degree in marketing from the University of Alabama in 1949. A year later, she married her high school sweetheart, Glenn Thomas, in the Edge Memorial Methodist Church in Groveland. They lived in Ocala, Florida from 1955 to 1971, in Clewiston, Florida from 1971 to 1980, in Arcadia, Florida from 1980 to 1987, and in Winter Haven since. Doris was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Winter Haven, a member of PEO, and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Greater Winter Haven.
The family invites friends to a memorial service on Monday, March 15 at 2:00 pm, with a reception following, at the First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 14 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Winter Haven.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church 637 6th Street NW, Winter Haven, FL 33881 for Christian education.
