LAKELAND - Charles J. Stanley (born on November 11, 1923 in Summitville, IN) formerly of Anderson, IN, passed away on December 7, 2012, as he said from "old age." He was 89.
He retired from General Motors in 1982 after 40 years. He was a tool maker & had several inventions to his credit. He was a sought after baseball pitcher, opting out to fight for his country. He became a paratrooper in World War II with the Golden Unicorn Division of the 82nd Airborne. He has traveled in 49 states as well as Europe & South America. He loved life to the fullest with golfing, archery, bowling, square dancing, fishing, hunting, & going on 50 cruises in his lifetime. He especially liked to joke with everyone.
He was married for 61 years & was preceded in death by his wife, Marty Stanley, in 2008, parents Charles & Blanche Stanley, & all 7 siblings. He will be sadly missed by his son Mark (Karen) Stanley of Lakeland, FL, twin daughters: Carri (Bill) Christensen of South Weber, UT & Cherri (Doug) Holder of Anderson, IN, 8 grandchildren: Jason (Cheryl) Stanley of Brandon, FL, Kristy (Karl) Roelofs of Tampa, FL, Misty (Alan) Russell of Grand Junction, CO, Ryan (Crystal) Holder of Atlanta, GA, Jeff Christensen of Meridian, ID, Amy Christensen of Casper, WY, & Stormy & Brody Holder of Anderson, IN, 2 great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Russell & Ian Holder with 2 more on the way.
Family to receive friends Monday from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens. Service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Lakeland Funeral Home with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery to follow. On-line condolences are located at
