LAKELAND - Elizabeth Ann Cowan, 71 of Lakeland surrendered to her ten-year battle with lung cancer with her family by her side on November 15, 2012. Ann was born March 29, 1941 in Geneva, AL to Ewell Dee and Mildred Elizabeth (Brooks) Stinson and moved to Lakeland in 1969. Ann was a retired school bus driver and worked for the Polk County School Board for twenty-five years. She and her husband were also active members of Gapway Baptist Church.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents as well as her sister, Linda Weatherford.
She was united in marriage on November 24, 1977 to her husband, Robert Cowan, Sr. who resides in Lakeland. Ann is also survived by her sons, Edward (Joanie) Armstrong of Temple, GA and Dale Armstrong of Lakeland; her daughters, Patricia (Alexander) McIlwain and Tonya (John) Lockamy both of Lakeland; her sisters, Sue Swanson of Lake Hamilton, Ruth Tucker, Joan Daniscsak and Maxine Walton all of Winter Haven; her step-sons, Robert Cowan, Jr. and Michael Cowan both of Rossville, GA. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received 2-5pm Sunday at the Lakeland Funeral Home where funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday. Interment will take place in Lakeland Memorial Gardens.
