LAKELAND - Frances L. Weed, RN, 66, passed away April 10th after a long battle with cancer.
Frances was born in Queens, New York on April 16, 1946 to George and Mary Bubolo. Her parents moved to Pine Bush, NY and opened a family Italian Restaurant where she worked during her high school and college years. Frances graduated from Pine Bush Central High School in 1963, and St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in New York City in June 1966. Her nursing career took her to hospitals in Monterey, California, Worcester, Mass, Tien Mu, Taiwan, Middletown, NY, Cocoa, Florida, and Lakeland, Fl., where she retired from Lakeland Regional Medical Center in 2006. For five years in the late 1980s she worked at the Kennedy Space Center in the medical support team, and had the honor of teaching several astronaut teams CPR during that time span. In 1992, she was awarded the coveted Silver Snoopy Award by NASA astronauts personally for outstanding achievements related to human flight safety. Her most cherished job involved teaching high school students a nursing preparatory program for two years at Palm Bay High School, Palm Bay, Fl. Frances was very proud of her Italian heritage, and traveled throughout Italy in her retirement years. While Venice, Italy remained her favorite city, her love was the Val D'Orcia in Southern Tuscany and its small hill towns. She was a member of Eaglebrooke Country Club where she enjoyed golfing with her friends, and more recently lunching with her cherished friends she lovingly called her Angel Squad.
