FRANCES L.
WEED, 66
Registered Nurse

LAKELAND - Frances L. Weed, RN, 66, passed away April 10th after a long battle with cancer.
Frances was born in Queens, New York on April 16, 1946 to George and Mary Bubolo. Her parents moved to Pine Bush, NY and opened a family Italian Restaurant where she worked during her high school and college years. Frances graduated from Pine Bush Central High School in 1963, and St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in New York City in June 1966. Her nursing career took her to hospitals in Monterey, California, Worcester, Mass, Tien Mu, Taiwan, Middletown, NY, Cocoa, Florida, and Lakeland, Fl., where she retired from Lakeland Regional Medical Center in 2006. For five years in the late 1980s she worked at the Kennedy Space Center in the medical support team, and had the honor of teaching several astronaut teams CPR during that time span. In 1992, she was awarded the coveted Silver Snoopy Award by NASA astronauts personally for outstanding achievements related to human flight safety. Her most cherished job involved teaching high school students a nursing preparatory program for two years at Palm Bay High School, Palm Bay, Fl. Frances was very proud of her Italian heritage, and traveled throughout Italy in her retirement years. While Venice, Italy remained her favorite city, her love was the Val D'Orcia in Southern Tuscany and its small hill towns. She was a member of Eaglebrooke Country Club where she enjoyed golfing with her friends, and more recently lunching with her cherished friends she lovingly called her Angel Squad.
Frances is predeceased by her parents George and Mary Bubolo. She is survived by her husband of 46 years Edward, Sr, of Lakeland Florida, daughters Susan Kohlstedt and her husband Doug of Jacksonville, NC, Katherine Grinstead and her husband Dennis of Lakeland, son Edward Jr. of Titusville, Fl; brothers George (Lydia) Bubolo of Stuart, Fl, Vincent Bubolo of Jacksonville, Fl; sister Rosemary Hufcut of Plantation, Fl, and several nieces and nephews. She was blessed with four grandchildren that received much of her attention, Tyler and Autumn Grinstead, and Nicholas and Delaney Kohlstedt.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Peace River Center, P.O. Box 1559, Bartow, Fl 33831. A visitation will be held at the Gentry Morrison Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Road (Route 98), Lakeland Fl on Sunday April 14th from 2pm until 4pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday April 15th, 10:00am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 501 East Carter Road, Lakeland.
