WINTER HAVEN - Gerald Greer Lott, 72, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at home after a long battle with cancer.
Gerald was born September 25, 1940 in Broxton, GA (Coffee County) to the late Robert Evans Lott and Vema Eliza Deen Lott. He had six brothers and one sister, a total of eight (8) children in the family.
Gerald attended schools in Broxton, GA and Umatilla, FL, and graduated from Polk Community College on December 19, 1971. He earned an Associate in Science Degree in Engineering Technology. He also completed the two year In-Service Training Program for Highway Engineers at the Florida Transportation. Gerald had been a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida since 1976. He was a Fellow Member of the National Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Florida District.
He received many awards for his service with the Boy Scouts of America and professional work including the Rolfe Mickler Award from the FDOT, the Safety Excellence Award from the Federal Highway Administration and National Highway Safety Administration, and the 25 Year Distinguished Public Service Award from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
Gerald retired from the FDOT, District One as the District Traffic Operations Engineer in 1993, after 30 years of service. After retiring from the State, he worked for Tampa Bay Engineering of Clearwater, FL and Aim Engineering in Bartow, FL. He was very proud of his accomplishments in improving traffic operations, highway safety and access management within District One and the State.
He was active in Boy Scouts as a Webelo leader, Cub Scout Pack Leader and Assistant Scout Master with Pack and Troop 123. He was the Scout Institution Representative for Beymer United Methodist Church while his boys were active in Scouts. He was very family-oriented and worked hard to help them. His hobbies included golf, fishing, gardening and most all, outdoor activities. Twice in golf, he achieved "a hole in one". He was a member of Clearwater First United Methodist Church and attended First United Methodist of Auburndale.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents and twin brothers, Billy and Bobby Lott.
He is survived by Jerry Jajuania, his wife of 50 years, two sons, Richard and Kenneth and three grandsons, Danny Lott, Dustin Lane and Ray Lane, and his sister, Margaret Whitley of Auburndale, and four brothers, Jesse Lott of Hawkinsville, GA, John Lott of Auburndale, W. C. Lott, Ben Salem, PA, and Mike Lott of Powder Springs, GA, and other family members.
Visitation will be held 5:00pm till 7:00pm, Friday, March 29, 2013 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Auburndale Memorial Park.
