LAKELAND - Gerald Stephen Lent, 66, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012 from a stroke.
Born in Sacramento, California, he attended McClatchy High School and Sacramento City College. His passions in life were flying, skiing, and horses.
Gerry was a gifted pilot who began his career as a flight instructor in Sacramento before moving to Alaska, where he worked as a bush pilot. He also flew for Virgin Air in St. Thomas.
Gerry married the love of his life, Dorcas "Dorie" Houle Loudermilk, who preceded him in death. They survived hurricane, Hugo, that devastated St. Thomas in September, 1989.
Dorie was transferred to Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and they lived in Boonsboro, Maryland. The last ten years he lived with his sister, Joyce, in Lakeland, Florida, and worked briefly for H & R Block before retiring completely.
Gerry was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Marshall Lent, and his mother, Doris Merrill Lent. He is survived by his older brother, Douglas Page Lent of Citrus Heights, California; his younger brother, Randy Clark Lent, of Soledad, California; and his older sister, Joyce Lent Bode of Lakeland, Florida. Gerry and Dorie did not have any children.
