LAKELAND - Gladys Flickinger went home to be with her Lord on Jan 2, 2013, at the age of 94. A native Floridian, Gladys was born in Marianna, FL and graduated from high school there in 1935. She received an AB in English and MEd in business from the University of Florida.
She taught Business Education subjects at Lakeland High School from 1955 until 1976. Her former students will remember her as Mrs. Garrison. Gladys was married to Thomas Cyril Kennington, a Captain and B-17 pilot in the U.S. Army Air Force who tragically lost his life in 1942. It was during her marriage to Glenn Garrison that she moved to Lakeland and lived here the rest of her life. Glenn died of cancer in 1966 and Gladys married Lavern Flickinger in 1972.
Her love of travel took her to 58 different countries and islands in all parts of the world. She was very active in church work at Lakeside Baptist Church and taught a women's Bible Class for many years.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Cyril Kennington (Delinda); two granddaughters, Stacey Kennington and Kerry Hall (Walt), and three great grandsons, Davis, Andrew and Christopher Hall, all of Windermere, FL. She will be interred alongside her parents in Cottondale, Florida. Arrangements by Gentry Morrison Cremation Center.
