LAKELAND - James Myron Carland passed away unexpectedly on November 23, 2012, at his residence in The Florida Presbyterian Homes in Lakeland, FL. Cause of death is pending.
James Carland was born on September 1, 1930, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the oldest son of Thomas and Loretta Carland. He is survived by his wife Pauline "Polly" Carland, and his two daughters Cathleen Sutterer of Marshfield, Wisconsin, and her two children, Matt and David, and Sharon (Robert) Derd-erian of Troy, Michigan, and their two children, Allison and Brian, and was preceded in death by his first wife Nancy Gordon Carland.
Mr. Carland retired from the Maytag Appliance Company after thirty years as a Regional Sales Representative, mostly in Michigan. After his retirement, he moved to the Swiss Golf & Tennis Club in Winter Haven, where he lived for many years until moving with his wife into The Florida Presbyterian Homes in Lakeland.
He was a Presbyterian and while in Winter Haven attended First Presbyterian Church in Lake Alfred. Since moving to Lakeland, he has attended services at The Florida Presbyterian Homes Chapel.
Mr. Carland honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He will be interred at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, sometime in December.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the "Loving Care Fund" at The Florida Presbyterian Homes in Lakeland, FL. Funeral arrangements through the National Cremation Society of Oviedo, FL.
