MULBERRY - Rev. James Walter Barton, Jr., 86, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 24, 2013, as a result of natural causes.
Born June 19, 1926 in Winston-Salem, NC, Rev. Barton and his family moved to Polk County in 1974. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy. Rev. Barton served as a chaplain for Lighthouse Ministries in Lakeland for many years.
Rev. Barton is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Jessie Barton; sons, Jerry Barton and his wife, Valerie and James Barton III and his wife, Laura; daughter, Judy Cox and her husband, Jerry; and grandsons, James Barton IV and Jeremy Barton.
The Barton family will receive friends Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 2-3pm at Scott Lake Baptist Church, 5811 Scott Lake Road in Lakeland. A celebration of Rev. Barton's life will follow at 3pm with Rev. Darren Kress officiating. Interment will take place at Lakeland Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, Rev. Barton's family requests that memorial contributions be made, in his honor, to Lighthouse Ministries, 215 East Magnolia Street in Lakeland. You may offer condolences to the Barton family at
