POLK CITY - John Anthony Norat, 64 of Polk City, died May 15, 2011 due to complications of a stroke.
John was born May 9, 1947 in Queens, NY to Juan A. and Helena (Lopez) Norat and moved to Lakeland in 2010 from Atlanta, GA. John is a Vietnam War veteran and a member of the American Legion Post # 127 in Buford, GA. He was also very active in the Catholic Church and founded the Legion of Mary at the Blessed Sacrament Church in El Paso, TX. John retired in 2010 from AT&T, Miami operations with over thirty-six years of employment.
He is preceded in death by his father, Juan and a brother, Andre Paul. John is survived by his parents, Tom & Helena Herring of Polk City; his brothers, James Smith of Lakeland, John T. Norat of Suwanee, GA, Joseph Norat of Miami, Matt Smith of Atlanta, Chris Smith of Oakwood, GA, John A. Norat of Jefferson, NC; a sister, Nini of Cowden, IL; brothers, Paul of Wilmington, DE and Billy of Los Angeles, CA and eighteen grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 9-10am Thursday at the Lakeland Funeral Home where funeral services will be held that day at 10 am. Interment with military honors will be held that morning in the Lakeland Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

I had not heard of Tony's passing, but was just thinking of him today and am devastated at this news! He was a fantastic friend and I so enjoyed talking to him whenever we had a chance. He will be thoroughly missed. Rest in the arms of the angels my friend, I will keep you and your family always in my prayers.

I knew Tony briefly when he used to come into our lounge everyday to chat.He was so looking forward to retiring and riding off into the sunset on his bike.Visiting his kids and grandkids.He will be missed.Tony had a great,infectious personality.My sympathies to his family.
