LAKELAND - John M. Caren, 96, of Lakeland, FL passed away July 14, 2012. Mr. Caren was born August 11, 1915 in Hoboken, NJ, the son of Thomas and Catherine Caren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse of 68 years, Valerie; two brothers, Thomas and Joseph; and three sisters, Ann, Kathleen and Helen. John is survived by his daughter, Valerie Anderson of Lakeland, FL; his grandson, John Anderson; and his great granddaughter, Samantha, both of Devon, PA; plus many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Caren enlisted in the Army in February 1937 and served honorably until discharged in July 1939. John again enlisted in the Army in September 1943 during the Second World War and was stationed in the India/Burma Theater of operations. Staff Sergeant Caren was honorably discharged in March 1946. Mr. Caren worked for 28 years as a civilian employee of the U.S. Navy Bureau of Aviation, first in Norfolk, VA and then Washington D.C.
After his retirement in 1970, John and Valerie moved from Virginia to Cocoa Beach, FL. While living there, John was a tour bus guide at the Kennedy Space Center for eight years and enjoyed every day that he spent at the center. The couple moved to Lakeland, FL in 1989.
In accordance with his wishes, John will be cremated and interred at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. No services will be held.
