LAKELAND - Newman Lloyd Kirkland, 93, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013, as a result of natural causes.
Mr. Kirkland was born, in the family home, February 24, 1920 in the hills of Tennessee. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army where he served in the infantry in the European Theater during World War II. Mr. Kirkland worked in construction and maintenance for Publix for over 36 years. He was a member of South Florida Avenue Church of Christ in Lakeland.
Mr. Kirkland was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mildred Elizabeth Kirkland. He is survived by son, Newman Darnell (Jane) Kirkland; daughters, Darlene (Carl) Thompson and Brenda Mask; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren.
Mr. Kirkland's family will receive friends Thursday, June 6, 2013 from 5-8pm at Lakeland Funeral Home at 2125 South Bartow Highway in Lakeland. A celebration of his life will be conducted Friday June 7, 2013 at 1pm at South Florida Avenue Church of Christ at 1807 South Florida Avenue in Lakeland, with Robert McAnally and Brian Kenyon officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Kirkland's family requests that donations be made, in his memory, to Florida School of Preaching at 1807 S. Florida Ave, Lakeland, FL 33803 or Cornerstone Hospice at 2590 Havendale Blvd NW, Winter Haven, FL 33881. Condolences may be made to Mr. Kirkland's family at .
