OMER R. "MAC"
McDUFF, 95
Director of Research and Quality Control

WINTER HAVEN - Omer R. "Mac" McDuff passed peacefully on February 19, 2013 at Palm Gardens due to natural causes.
Mac was born in Bath, Maine on January 9, 1918 to Joseph and Leonie McDuff. He received his B.S. degree in Physics and Chemistry at Bowdoin College and due to his passion for flying, joined the Army Air Corp where he distinguished himself as a Fighter Pilot during World War II. He was awarded the Air Medal with 12 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the French Croix de Guerre for his valor in combat.
After the war Mac married Lorraine Charron of Brunswick, Maine and moved to Florida to begin his career as a Food Technologist in the Citrus Industry. Mac spent 34 years with Adams Packing Association, Auburndale, Florida, in charge of quality control and research & product development. Mac was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for his pioneering work in citrus flavors development from the Florida Section of the Institute Food Technologists. Upon his retirement he continued to serve the citrus industry as a consultant.
Mac and Lorraine were dedicated members of St Joseph's Catholic Church in Winter Haven since 1947. Together they raised a family that they were very proud of and provided a loving home centered on a foundation of faith, strong values and unconditional love.
Mac had an ear for music and taught himself how to play the organ and when he "retired" from the golf course he and Lorraine became voracious readers. He had a scientific mind and loved to solve problems. He never met a cross word puzzle he didn't like.
Mac was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lorraine and is survived by his son Mark McDuff (Lynda), daughters Michele Lenharr (Tony) and Martha Wiggins (Turner), seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 23 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winter Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
