LAKELAND - Robert Bob Crossfield, 94, passed away Tuesday, December 17th, 2013 at his home in Lakeland, FL.
Born on November 14, 1919 in Lexington, KY and raised in Griffin, GA., Bob graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the US Navy, attaining the rank of Lt. Commander before being discharged in 1946. After the war, Bob married the love of his life, Millicent "Millie"
Forrester in 1946 and together were longtime, active members at St.
George's Episcopal Church in Griffin.
Bob and Millie were inseparable for 57 years, they did everything
together including raising three sons and traveling extensively. Bob developed one of Griffin's first subdivisions, Hillandale, helped develop the St. George's Woods assisted living center, and was a longtime member of the Griffin Rotary Club.
After Millie's death in 2003 Bob continued to be active in the community,
but failing eyesight prompted him to move to Lakeland, FL.
Bob was a caring and compassionate friend and a loving husband and
father. He is survived by his three sons and their wives, Eric and MaryAnn Crossfield of Alpharetta, GA, Andy and Emily Crossfield of Lakeland, FL, and Matt and Sue Ellen Crossfield of Spicewood, TX; one grandson, Kyle D. Crossfield of Lithia Springs, GA; and one great-grandson, Brantley Crossfield.
A memorial service will be held on January 11th, 2014 at St. George's
Episcopal Church in Griffin, GA. A service will also be held in Lakeland
but details are not as yet finalized. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to the SPCA Florida in Lakeland
