LAKELAND - Shirley Odom Polk, 62, a Polk County School Board retiree, passed away on July 8, 2013 from respiratory failure.
Shirley was born October 31, 1950 in Abbeville, Alabama to the late Oscar Edward dom and Merle Cureton Odom. She grew up at Breezy Point on the banks of Crooked Lake between Babson Park and Frostproof. Shirley graduated from Lake Wales Senior High in 1968 and received an Associate of Arts degree from Polk Community College.
She is survived by her mother, Merle Cureton Odom of Lake Wales, Fl, children Simon Polk, Lakeland, Fl., Sarah Elizabeth King, New Orleans, La, Samantha Ariel Polk, Tampa, Fl and their father Charled Polk of Lake Wales, Fl., grandchildren Jasmine Elizabeth King, Thomas Alexander King, New Orleans, La, and special granddaughter of the heart Jessica Carter, sisters Dale Fischer, Mae Lee, Sandy Odom and Kathy Odom, all of Lake Wales, Fl., numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Friends and family are invited to gather Sunday, July 21st from 5pm to 8pm, at 1425 Elgin Street, Lakeland to reminisce about Shirley's extraordinary and cherished life.
