LAKELAND - Thomas E. Toska, 85, of Cypress Lakes, Lakeland, passed away on April 28, 2013 due to heart failure.
Mr. Toska has been a resident of Lakeland since 1989, moving here from Toledo, Ohio after retiring. He had worked for Toledo Edison as an electrical maintenance foreman for 40 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, and was an Army veteran of WWII serving as a train supervisor in Italy during the war. He enjoyed golf, developing the genealogy for his family tree, traveling on family vacations, and spending time on his computer. Each evening, he enjoyed drives around Lake Morton viewing the swans and pelicans. His favorite quote was: Patience and Perseverance equal Progress.
A loving husband, father, and granddad, he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Lou, two sons Michael and Gary (Pearl); two sisters Trudy Bennett, and Dolores Sweeneey (Thomas); and his three grandchildren, Charlene Brienza (Michael), Christie Toska, and Kyle Toska (Kristian); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Leo, Raymond, Robert and Ralph, and two sisters Lyn Lyman and Patricia Kuhr.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 2 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Church, Lakeland, with burial to follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Friends are invited to the visitation to be held on Wednesday, May 1, at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Northside, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
