LAKELAND - Thomas "Tommy" Edward Douglas, age 85, passed away on May 5, 2014 at Good Shepherd Hospice due to complications from cancer.
He was born in Winter Haven, FL on December 23, 1928. He graduated from Kathleen High School, and was a longtime resident of Lakeland. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953 and went on to retire from the Tampa Tribune after 40 years of service.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and fine arts painter. Tommy was a lifelong member of Kathleen United Methodist Church and was always a loving husband who was devoted to family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Jeanette, step-daughter Jamie (Ennis) Green, and step-son-David Martin (Sherry). He was lovingly known as "Pop Pop" to four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday 5/10/14 at 11 a.m. at Lanier Funeral Home.
