LAKELAND - Neal Francis Holewinski, 74, died October 18, 2012, at his home in Lakeland, FL due to CHF.
Neal was born April 12, 1938, in Green Bay, WI. His parents were Aleck and Lila Holewinski. He moved with his family to Miami, FL, in 1953 where he graduated from Archbishop Curley High School in 1956. He returned to the school at the end of his career where he was on the staff. Neal served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Returning to Miami from service, he partnered in a family nursery business and then continued to work in the nursery business with Dick Cornell's Nursery. He was on the maintenance staff at Holy Family Church and School in North Miami. He then returned, happily, to Curley High School where he completed his career. Neal was an avid sports fan and excelled in bowling. He was an active member of Holy Family Church Men's Club. Neal was well known for his gardening skills. He would share the fruits of his labor with family and friends. If neighbors found a bag of fresh vegetables on their front porch, they knew the source---Neal.
Neal was predeceased by his father, Aleck, forty years ago and by his mother, Lila, just one year ago. He was predeceased by his sister Therese Holewinski and his stepfather Frank Placerean. He is survived by his daughters Cathy North and Linda Holewinski, granddaughter Courtney Halter, and former wife Patricia Hughes, all of Lakeland, FL. He is survived by two sisters and two brothers: Mary Ann Holewinski (Victor Weig-er) of Okeechobee, FL, Monica Billings (Josh) of Maitland, FL, David Holewinski (Nancy) of Leesburg, VA, and Michael Holewinski of North Miami, FL.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11 AM in the chapel of Lakeland Funeral Home. A time of refreshment and fellowship will follow immediately after the service.
