LAKELAND - Reverend Earl H. Hungate, born April 21, 1934 of Lakeland, FL, passed to his heavenly reward on December 30, 2012 at the age of 78, due to respiratory failure.
He was a long time ordained minister in the Church of God of Cleveland, TN having served the church organization in multiple capacities of leadership for over 44 years. Revered Hungate served as a pastor, chancellor, evangelism director, and state overseer, and served on numerous state councils throughout his career. Throughout his many years of ministry he served in multiple states to include, Florida, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Virginia, and West Virginia. He traveled on several mission trips abroad to include Southeast Asia and the Caribbean He enjoyed hunting, outdoor activities, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Reverend Hungate is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 57 years, Sena Marenko Hungate; daughter, Sharilyn Hungate Boykin and her husband Reverend Dwayne Boykin; son, Reverend Vincent E. Hungate and his wife Allison Smith Hungate. Reverend Hungate had 3 grandchildren, Brooks Hungate, McKenzie Hungate, and Madison Hungate. He is the son of the late Ira Hobart Hungate and Lake Evelyn Cole Hungate of Coal City, WV. He is also survived by two brothers, Dale Edward Hungate and his wife Lorraine of Athens, WV and Wayne D. Hungate and his wife Carol of Boise, ID. He is preceded in death by a brother, Gene Herndon Hungate and his wife Ann, who continues to live in Dayton, OH.
Services will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Abundant Life Church of God at 11:30 am. Viewing will commence at 10:00 am at the church. Friends and guests are invited to attend his home-going celebration. Flowers can be sent to the Abundant Life Church of God. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Medici Project, 1390 Smoke Hill Drive, Hoschton, GA, 30548.
