COTE, 103

LONGBOAT KEY - Evelyn Mader Cote died peacefully of natural causes on October 5, 2013, just a week after celebrating her 103rd birthday.
She was born in Shelbyville, Illinois, September 27, 1910 and graduated from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois in 1932. In 1937, she married Eugene Mader of Chicago, father of her two children. The family moved to Lakeland, Florida in 1946, where Evelyn was active in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and the Methodist Church. She was widowed in 1964 and moved to Longboat Key in 1969, where she built a house that became the hub of many family gatherings. During the next two decades, she traveled world-wide, owned and operated an art supply store, became an accomplished water-colorist and an avid golfer, and gradually drew many members of her family to the Bradenton area. In 1985, she married George Cote and converted to the Catholic Church.
George predeceased her in 2010. She is survived by her children Diana Fish and Dennis Mader, and their spouses, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren, who gathered yearly to celebrate her long, full, and joyful life.
Services will be held this evening at 6:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 2990 26th Street W, Bradenton. Please send memorial donations to Tidewell Hospice, 3355 26th Street W, Bradenton.
