Dr. Ellington's Office
LAKELAND - Joan Brandes, 82, passed away February 21, 2014, in Lakeland due to respiratory distress.
She was born April 13, 1931 in St. Louis, MO. She
raised her family in California and moved to Lakeland in 1977 when her husband became Vice President of Watkins Motor Lines. Mrs. Brandes worked the front desk at Dr. Ellington's office at Watson Clinic for 30 years and had just retired. She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, where she was very active, and was a member of Women of Worship and RCCW. She served as president of the Lakeland Tennis Team for many years and as Secretary of the Board of Directors at Casa Loma Condominiums. She was a passionate mother, grandmother and family person
and spent as much time as possible supporting their sporting events and
activities. Joan was a true angel for her family and friends.
Mrs. Brandes was predeceased by her husband Donald D. Brandes; brothers Robert Schulte and Walter Schulte and sister Lois Flaherty. She is
survived by son Karl Brandes, Tampa, FL; daughters Kathleen Brandes, IN, Chrissy and her husband Jeff Myers, CA, Karen and her husband Tom Burklew, VA; brothers Donald Schulte and Paul and his wife Carole Schulte, both of
CA; grandchildren Thompson Brandes, Joe Brandes, Nick Brandes, Fallon Brandes, James Brandes, Hunter Myers, Chase Myers, Austin Myers, Donald Burklew and Alexandra Burklew and numerous nieces and nephews in California and Georgia.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday March 8 at 11:00 am at Church of the Resurrection. Interment will be at Bay Pines National Cemetery Friday
March 7 at 9:15 am. Gentry-Morrison Southside Chapel.
