Barbara Jean Hill Lewis, 75, went to be with the Lord, Monday, March 3, 2014, due to complications of cancer. Her family was at her bedside.
Barbara Jean was born January 21, 1939, to George and Lucille McEwen Hill. She attended McComb High School where she was a cheerleader, basketball and tennis player, and voted Miss McComb High. She attended college at Ole Miss where she was an active member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and Air Force ROTC Sweetheart.
Her lifetime passions were teaching her Sunday School classes, Children's ministries, and bridge clubs. She volunteered with Youth for Christ and the Winter Haven Library. She was most passionate about time spent with friends and family.
Barbara Jean is predeceased by her husband Joseph M. Lewis. She is survived by her children, Hallie Dean (Tami) Kendall II, Winter Haven, Ann (Jim) Claussen, Lakeland, Susan (Scott) Hoskins, Duluth, Georgia, and Joseph Matthew (Kelly) Lewis III, Ft. Myers, grandchildren Justin and Ryan Claussen, Luke, Jordan, Hannah, Noah, Abigail, and Grace Kendall, Kendall and Matthew Hoskins, Hadley Lewis.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, March 14th at Parkland Baptist Church at 12:30pm. Visitation with the family prior to the service at 11:30am with a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Youth for Christ or the Wounded Warrior Project.
