LAKELAND - Walter Thomas Severns, 77, of Lakeland, FL went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 23, 2014, at his residence after a long battle with cancer.
Born September 5, 1936 in Camden, NJ he moved to Florida 21 years ago and to Lakeland 9 years ago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had worked at a family furniture store in New Jersey. He also worked at the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa. He was of the Episcopal faith and a member of the American Legion Post 148 in Riverview, FL. He loved his family, friends and life.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters. He is survived by: his wife of 57 years, Madeleine; a son, Gary Severns and his wife Yvonne of Kingston, PA; 4 daughters, Lisa Webb and her husband Lloyd of Winter Haven, FL, Lynne Shenk and her husband Mark of Davenport, FL, Laurie Freed and her husband Robert of Lakeland, FL, and Kelly Brooks of Zephyrhills, FL; 2 brothers, Elwood Severns of Maple Shade, NJ and Tommy Severns of Bellmawr, NJ; 14 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm till 2:00pm, Friday, June 27, 2014 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven, FL. A Memorial Service will begin at 2:00pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Florida National Cemetery.
