WINTER HAVEN - Alexander Baluch passed away August 1, 2014.
Born Sandor Baluch in Kassa, Hungary on April 10, 1921, to Michael and Julia (Osmolski) Baluch. He immigrated to this country in September of 1924. He married Mary K. Sexton in Cleveland, OH, on August 9, 1947. They were married for 67 years.
Alex is survived by his wife, and children: Mary Pat Lytle (Richard) of State College, PA, Kathy Zmuda (Gene) of Buffalo Grove, IL, Michael Baluch (Sandy) of Omaha, NE, and Barbara Simmons of Glendale, AZ. He has six grandchildren: Parker Lytle, Alex Lytle, Michelle (Zmuda) Martin (Eric), Michael Zmuda, Andrew Baluch and Jesse Adams. He also has two great grandchildren, Emma and Graham Martin. His sister, Eleanor (Sr. Julia) Baluch resides at the Ursuline Center in Canfield, Ohio.
From 1939 to 1947, Alex attended the Cleveland School of Art, interrupted by his service as a Corporal in the Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre of Operations in WWII from October 1942, to February 1946. He taught art in the Ohio public schools and also at Findlay College. He was a co-founder of the Findlay Art League in 1950. He spent many enjoyable hours there with others who shared his interest in two-dimensional art.
After retiring to Winter Haven, Florida, in 1980 Alex and Mary spent many enjoyable years and made many friends volunteering at Baseball City and at Winter Haven Hospital. Alex ushered at St. Matthews Catholic Church and was in the K of C there. He was still going to Gold's gym three times a week at 93 years of age.
Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Winter Haven, Florida, is handling arrangements for cremation. Contact St. Matthews in Winter Haven for details about the funeral Mass. Committal of ashes will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
